Yes, if you are applying the proper white hat seo techniques then it will enough for your website for getting it on the top of the pages. But try to focus on the proper keywords for getting good results. You can also try other internet marketing techniques for getting more visitors & traffic for your website such as PPC, emailer marketing etc.
link building has great power to get ranked on search engines..
It is not correct accurately.The content using some related keywords also is very important .If your keywords is good enough,you can get many visitors .

Content is very important. Its all very well having lots of links but they have to point to good quality content on your site...

High quality sites don't need any link building as it's considered unnatural. Quality sites live off of their great content and recommendations of visitors who share links to them. Look at Facebook. Do you think they did any link building?
i am sure years ago, when no one knows facebook, they are not sitting wait.
if u want have high traffic, you should do sth to improve it. it doesn't grow in three days.
