Thread: Monetizing a tube site

    Default Monetizing a tube site

    Hi all,

I made a tube search engine, promoted it and now I wonder how do I get money from it I'm still a little noob in the whole porn business, I made the site because it was a nice programming challenge for me.
Currently I'm getting paid a few bucks for an ad, which covers server costs. I have about 120,000 unique visitors per month, 1000 new vids per day, bounce rate below 16% and most of the traffic comes from US and UK.
I tried to advertise webcams but after 3,500 clicks and no sales I don't thing it's the best product to promote. For now, the main page has PR3, but I have a sub-page with PR6 which I can, at least partially, redirect to the frontpage, which should drive me a lot of organic google traffic. So I'm looking for some ideas what and how should I promote to get conversions. Once the site will start earning from traffic I can play with PR and seo.

The search engine isn't niche-oriented, but I mostly users are interested in amateurs/mature/young/teen/asian/school girls/chubby (in this order).

Is there any possibility to earn money of this site? Maybe someone experienced in monetizing such sites would like to co-op with me? I can make 5 other sites like this or others, write bots to harvest stuff etc, the "only" problem I have I don't know how to make money out of it.

    Thanks in advance!

that's an interesting approach; where does your traffic come from? if it's coming from SE's, perhaps you could try delivering a different set of ads depending on what keywords they use to arrive at your site.

currently it's 55% from referrals (built naturally), 35% direct enters and 10% SEs. After increasing frontpage's PR the SE traffic should be a lot bigger.

Different ads for different orgins is a good idea, but I need to find products to promote anyway. I guess for some referrals I can completely turn ads off if I know that it doesn't convert at all, just to increase user experience and help natural link builing.

    cheers

The best way to monetizing a tube site is to sell it

Your traffic is low, you get 4K uniques per day only and for tube traffic this is nothing. Try to increase traffic and when sell it to someone who believes tubes can make money.

Your site wouldn't be scraping redtube/xhamster type sites and showing ppc adverts would it, by any chance?

I know the traffic is low, but it doesn't convert at all. I guess I can increase the traffic to 20 or 30k per day, but it doesn't make much sense now, because I'll pay more for nothing.

As for the selling, how much do you think site of this kind is worth? With the PR6 subpage, which was is just loved by google

And, BTW, how to I search for potential buyers of such site?

I do like the idea of a scraper site which does not give away free content displacing tube site pages in the serps

I'm trying to think of some examples I've seen, like those various whois sites & generic valuation sites which sometimes show up in the serps for various terms, but I don't recall the names of any of them specifically atm... I'm sure someone knows what I'm referring to.

I'm not sure if I understand: you mean making a paid site with tubes which are free, but scrapped all over the net?

As for the content I do have a LOT of it, about 800,000 movies (both embeddable and external links) with thumbs. I like writing bots, so I also have about 300,000 tagged links to various pic/dl movs galleries. If you have any good ideas what to do with them them PM me.

    cheers!

does your site display the movies or merely link to the tube site pages, like a typical search engine would?

what I was referring to earlier was using a scraper of some sort to gather the unique text & titles from existing tube site pages then republish it with your own ads, burying the link to the source page somewhere. so hopefully if your pages got decent results in the serps, visitors would click on your ads rather than go to the tube pages.

I believe that quantcast was doing something like that, under the guise of analyzing websites. so for some search terms, instead of a page/site dedicated to keyword, instead a quantcast analysis scraped page of a page named keyword would show up in the serps. I.E., the scraped pages were getting higher rankings than the source.

You're being awfully helpful for a guy that's whacking your business as a favour to surfers.

Best advice, you're working from the wrong end. Work from the end where you build something to make money. Not build something and then wonder how to make money with it. Especially when you don't know the business to begin with.

    +1

I thought this was something else entirely based on his first post.

How am I whacking anyone's business? I'm sending traffic to external sites and embed streams which are embeddable (which means that they owners actually want it).

As I said, you don't understand the business. And that's not a criticism, it's just an observation.

You're obviously a talented guy. You should be using that talent in a more productive, and less destructive, part of the business.
