There are different thoughts on it. I personally like to start off by "Most Popular Videos" (ratings) first for a while. I manually rate a few that I think look good and then there is the chance that the surfers will rate some too. Then after I feel things are established I simply use "Average Clicks". Average clicks has the drawback that it tends to get pretty static after a while unless you have set up some sort of rotation or view count resetting.

If you're going to trade blind traffic, I think you should start with Most Popular (if they're "popular" due to clicks). That's to get the best productivity.

If you're after bookmarks and SE traffic, I suggest Latest videos.

Just my best guesses.

But this sort methods must be best for trade and for google CTR.

I used my own script when I built my tube and my goal from the start was acquiring bookmarkers.
I put the most recent videos on the front page and added tons of feeds so that it was updated regularly.
I built the site with a very simple, very clean interface.
I sent 1000's of hits per day from textlinks (not skimmed) from my network for many months.
I added a way to track bookmarkers very carefuly.

After months of doing this, the site had not really gained any bookmarkers at all. Only around 100-200 bookmarker visits per day, after having been exposed to probably 500k+ quality clicked traffic from textlinks.

My suggestion would be to sort by popularity if you are planning to trade traffic, or to sort by latest if you want to gain an inconsequential number of bookmarkers after many months of effort

Well, I'm using NTS myself and all I can suggest is using Average Clicks. At first my biggest tube didn't make any sales at all and had a shitty prod. After changing to that sort option success started And like allniche already mentioned, they can always click on the "Most Recent" tab, and they will. Got a lot of traffic to that section and really popular clips go to the main page pretty quick.
