Damn... haven't tried text sites for ages, but here's a few pointers:
- maybe some sponsors convert better for text sites (=modem users)
- having gzip compression (7x faster loading times) would help A LOT: a comparison:

- links on text sites should be "grayed out" or other way indicate they are being visited... trade links should indicate they have been clicked, but not visited (otherwise they will be grayed when visiting next time)
- thumb sites are normally fixed width, but text sites give a freedom for thinking about more fluid layout (which is harder to code, must admit that)
- it might be a good idea not to underline the text links since it makes them slower to read...
- emphazing some keywords would make the text nicer to read and would be better for SEO... like

- you cannot have pics from the girls if you want to avoid 2257 problems (if I remember right that was your reason), but you can be creative with buttons etc. the master of cool text layout is http://www.sexy-photos.net/ ...also consider making a few screenshots from your top paysites/trades (shouldn't fall under 2257?). Having a few images makes the site less "heavy"

Don't know if there are any good tips now in year 2006, but they worked in 1997...

Hadn't even considered that, I suppose most of those video sites aren't very appealling to modem users though. Most of the sites I promote are photo sites, so I'm not sure that is what was affecting it. The low ratios could have simply been a fluke, I've already had as many sales today as all of yesterday (it's only 11AM here). I get the feeling, though I have no way of proving it, that alot of people who are borderline about buying a membership might revisit the site a few times and keep looking at a gallery in the HOF before finally buying... since all those galleries were changed yesterday, those people wouldn't have found what they were after... I might be way off here though.

Hmm, good point, and you're not the only who's mentioned not graying the trades. I'll have to change that.

another good idea that should be easy to implement. some of the strangest, or rather most minute, things seem to end up influencing prod on a site. hopefully this will be one of them

Yeah that might be a real good idea. Screenshots of other sites wouldn't be exempt from 2257 unless all the content on them was also, which is unlikely. However images cropped from topless photos or non-nude photos etc certainly should be, and a few of those on the site might help generate some extra clicks to trades (or sponsors). The prod from thumb sites right now is absolutely horrible, I suppose a few buttons like that might help improve it.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to post this, it's appreciated.

BTW, my site seems to have stabilized for the time being, 68k (was 70k yesterday), and ~235% prod and still increasing. Obviously it still needs some major changes made, but it's a relief to see that it hasn't dropped another ~30-40k overnight again.

You know, you're almost certainly right about this. I changed all of my other sites over to text straight away and didn't see very much change, however in retrospect I see those sites were so small to begin with (none over 20k) that it was very easy for them to climb the toplist of a few much larger sites, and make the transition to the new type of traffic very easily.

However this site didn't have that luxury. With most of those smaller sites I was able to get on a toplist, and get premium links from for a few days for a traffic boost, on sites with 10X as much traffic. Well there simply aren't any teen niche text sites with over 1 million hits per day (that would have given me a traffic boost for a few days) to help my site make the transition, which is what I would have really needed to duplicate the results of the smaller sites. Getting link exchanges going with 3 or 4 text sites around 50-200k still doesn't even come close to that proportionately.

Oh well. Live and learn...
