Thread: Server Question

one of my boxes performs pretty poor its a
Quad Core 860 with 8GB of ram
so i asked the hoster for a RAM upgrade to 16 GB
and they told me that not possible i have to get another server, sooooooooooo, WTF i never heard that a RAM upgrade aint possible, so guys is something like that true?

different motherboards have different RAM limitations, dunno what the limit is on yours
it does seem odd that something modern enough to use a quad core processor would have an 8GB limit

I agree it does seem odd but I guess it's possible. Maybe doing 'lspci -v" from the shell will give more info about the hardware to possibly verify that it really is the case with the ram limitations. Often that will help narrow down and identify the motherboard.

Also maybe try 'dmidecode | less' to see the mobo and then check if you want.

yes its possible that its limited to 8 gigs ram.

why not just move some sites to another server ?
