Thread: How many people use embedded flash videos?

We just started providing embedded flash videos as an ad tool and some guys have been very pleased with them, but they seem to have been ignored by a lot of affiliates using blogs.

How useful are they?

Do any of you use them?

Post examples if you have any so I can see how they compare with ours or if we're doing something wrong.

Nice, how do they do? Better than the thumb gals?

Yep, I only use FLV nowadays... I do prefer to make my own though, usually I generate a 1 minute clip from an FHG.

A script I wrote in perl that uses mencoder and ffmpeg. (I run Linux as a desktop).

With the number of programs that go under, change things, make errors, I prefer to host the flash videos myself so I have control over it... IMO anyone that provides the embeded flash videos should also provide the video itself for WMs to download. I "prefer" a WMV source 400x300.

anything simpler than using the Flash CS3, something that just converts... or is it not worth it, thanks

im afraid if you want good quality vp8 and not shitty soerensen spark(strongly recommended for adult) then you need cs3 or another tool where you can encode vp8 (but they are mostly not for free)
vp8 is protected by on2 and they have expensive licensing fees

some dudes can build that with mencoder and some hacked codec,
but its not easy a go. need some configuration

fuzebox maybe knows more. i didnt manage to encode vp8 on linux box until today.. but it requires anyway so much cpu power that it would be a waste of expensive server infrastructure to encode vp8 on a dedicated server

doing it on flash cs3 and a local core2duo isnt a big deal

Nah I've been encoding sorensen... The quality hasn't bothered me yet, I figured I'd just start encoding in vp8 when the process became easier. Flash cs3 isn't even an option for me as I don't run windows.

The idea is still to upsell people to longer, higher quality clips so it sorta works in my favor
