How to make good thumbs?
I've been using Photoshop (sharpen, sharpen edges, auto contrast) and the thumbs dont really look the way I want it when I put them all together on a website. They are ok -> www.amazing-blowjob.com but some other tgp websites look better and jpeg sizes are smaller too (without that "irritating feeling" to it). Can you recommend something that I could use or how to do it to get it right?

Why not use Smart Thumbs to crop your thumbs? With the correct ImageMagick settings, you can do wonders.

I think your site could benefit from having alot less thumbs, removing that bigass AFF banner at the top and making an actual layout other than a blank tgp template with thumbs and banners. You couldn't get me to trade traffic with your site in it's current state.
Yeah, I know it is not looking good. I am still working on it, just starting really. I've been checking out Photoshop and it looks like lowering saturation would help, but it seems like it takes too much time to do it by hand. Resize, sharpen, brightness / contrast, saturation etc... With 10 sites that can take a lot of time.
LEFT SIDE is good, RIGHT is not even though it is better quality and files are larger...

This is what will happen... your prod will improve and your outgoing prod will suffer. If you don't know what prod is then you will learn and probably the hard way if you continue to hand edit thumbs. That time is much better spent working on building traffic and building new sites. Anyone that wants to babysit 10 sites nowadays hasn't been paying attention to higher conversion rates... if you are a spider you have a larger chance if catching some dinner if you have a bigger web.
I'd like to start with 1 tube and 3 tgps and see how far I can get with that... Then would like to expand it to about 10-12 tgps and get rid of the worst performing ones and keep working on maybe half of them for the most part and just keep the other ones in the background. The main goal would be to have 1 tube and 3 tgps that get a lot of traffic... I have a general idea how to get there but it takes a lot of time to work on it. 10 - 12 hours a day 7 days a week would be goodI only do it after work for now, so it might be at least another year or so.
It is not really important for me to make money right now. I would like to get everything going the way I want it to look / be and go from there...

You have to have your host install ImageMagick
Go to Settings >> ImageMagick to set ImageMagick as the Image Processor
Then go to Settings >> groups >> edit a group and set ImageMagick to On and set the ImageMagick commad to "-strip -sharpen 1x1 -enhance"
-strip removes a little extra data

Is there any way you could tell me how to, in general, use it with Smart Thumbs.
I have everything set according to ST manual, but I am wondering what to do now.

Do I go with it through SSH or would I need to download one of the interfaces and use it like that? I am just not sure how to use it in general and get it connected to ST etc...
You should be able to crop your thumbnails inside your Smart Thumbs administration panel. Since I do not use ST, I would suggest you to take a look at their documentation.

I finally figured it out. What about settings that are already in ST?
-filter Blackman -modulate 110,102,100 -sharpen 1x1 -enhance
It takes a little more time to edit with ImageMagick than with GUI. Is it worth waiting (it adds up over time)? Are images gonna look better?

Btw both recommendations are good, but '-filter Blackman -modulate 110,102,100 -sharpen 1x1 -enhance' seems to be the best.

try arles ... smaller file than with photoshop sharpen and the quality of the thumbs looks the same for me.
Arles can do much more than to create good thumbnails ... check them out,if u like
Look after the customer and the buisness will take care of itself !
