Default How the FBI uses the Web as a child porn honeypot

I don't understand how this is not entrapment or how the government can legally entice someone to commit a crime?

The FBI had set up its fake CP site for precisely this situation. When investigators had a lead on someone specific, they e-mailed the person with a custom password and the site URL.

Generally, if something is socially labeled as bad, the law enforcement takes advantage of that and knows it can get away with a lot of actions that fall into the gray area.

The enticement is there and it's controlled BUT no one if forcing these guys to commit a crime. Doing this also eliminates the "ignorance defense". If they know CP is wrong, then why would they go to site that shows ONLY that hoping they won't get caught?

Take that show, "Bait Car" for example. Law enforcement leaves a car, with the keys in it and door open, in a neighborhood known for car theft and wait. Plenty of people walk right past it without giving it a second thought...then there's that one guy (or girl) that jumps in it and drives off. Just because the car is there like that doesn't give them the right to just take it. They know it's against the law, but take it anyway thinking they won't get caught. Needless to say, car thefts in that area drop considerably after a few "friends" get caught and jailed thru stealing it (they try not to use the same car twice in that neighborhood). Now the new thieves have to think long and hard before stealing a car, and the ones that get out of jail afterwards have to think twice before stealing another car.

When investigators had a lead on someone specific, they e-mailed the person with a custom password and the site URL.
It's THAT person's choice to break the law and using the info invesigators supply them makes it an open and shut, air-tight case for prosecution. I mean, damn, they email you email address specific login info...instantly tagging you for further investigation.

They give put the rope out there, it's up to the law-breaker to hang themselves with it.

Nope after that they stick to stealing cars parked in driveways of expensive homes or carjacking. And the guy who got caught online then goes and finds himself a child and then commits murder to hide the evidence. You will never put an end to crime by jailing people who most likely need some type of help. if you ever watched To Catch a Predator you will see many repeat offenders and one guy was even a triple hitter. People jack cars for two reasons one being they need money and the other is street cred. Give that person a job that can actually feed a family and they are very unlikely to have time to be jacking cars. Help a predator with the issue he probably has in regards to relationships (and stop trying to replace strip clubs with churches) and he will probably be much to occupied with women to think about kids.

I myself always dated younger chicks as they don't bitch and have pms constantly. Also i've found the older they get the more they expect and the harder they dig for your wallet.

Jail + help programs works best, just jailing someone and then taking hands off, will worsen the situation. Of course these programs cost a lot of tax payers' money and many do not agree to pay for a rehabilitation of some jackass
