Hi...new here, semi-new to the business...

Hi there, found this place while browsing around last night and after trolling a little bit see that it's a pretty cool place with heaps of useful peeps and info.

Just to let you know who I am...there may be a very small percentage who recognise the name, I originally went by the nick ~phunk~ back in '99-'04...was unemployed for about 6 months in '99, taught myself web design (we didn't learn it in school back then) started off by posting for free on bbs, uploading movies daily on dialup to the likes of JustOn, Web1000 and so on. Did a few free mgp sites on freexxxspace.com. Around early 2000 I was maybe the third or fourth site on adultbouncer and made a fortune, had over 1100 members at one point in the $10 per rebill days. Had a site on deluxepass for a while, ran a few MGP sites, most popular was probably Phunkz Phreebies, I would be amazed if anyone actually remembers it, but I was doing 35-40k a day at it's best.

Anyways, things went good for a few years then a heap of very heavy personal shit started encroaching on the time spent promoting my sites and it went downhill quite quick...until the point I had to take a minimum wage 9-5 job in the start of 2004 and been stuck like that since. Not earning minimum wage anymore, only on £10 ($20/hour) but still sucks.

About 12 months ago I started toying with the idea of trying to get back into doing adult sites. I went back to AB, started designing a few archives, then after a chat with a very good old friend over ICQ, namely spewie from hereistheporn it made me realise that archives don't convert anymore. It burst my bubble a bit, making and promoting archives was my "thing", so I got disheartened and stopped again.

Now about a month back I got back online, started checking out all the sponsors, reading the messageboards and damn...things have changed. Tube sites are taking over, pic sites seem to be dying out...tgp's and mgp's seem to be still holding their own and signups are way down. But hey, it's not the golden age anymore, you've actually got to work at it now hell of a lot more, not like it used to be, wake up one day...think "hmmm...i'll do a porn site"...within a month be making $2/3/4k+.

When I tried to get back into it 12 months back, i didn't want to pay anything, wanted all free hosting and just be able to make money and quit my dayjob. Now my attitude is completely different, I know it will take maybe 3-6 months to make any half decent money back. My job doesn't pay loads but I can put £300 ($600) per month into hosting/content/traffic and about 4/5 hours a day into design/promotion...willing to do this as long as it takes to get stable.

Anyway...if you're still reading, thanks for humoring me & letting me ramble on a bit. As I said before, I will have a ruck of questions over the next few months, a lot has changed and I have a lot of catching up to do.

Finally...on the off-chance any actually does remember me, drop by and say hi, or message me on ICQ...would be good to catch up with some old faces. If you don't remember me, also feel free to add me to ICQ...my list is a bit too empty right now.

Heya,

Welcome to the board and it is nice seeing an old webmaster back. I never spoke with you though but I also had a site on AB and MGP.

If you still want to make archives, I suggest you to try Porn Access for one good reason, their FHGs are used by some big sites and are sure to send you traffic for months. I won't lie you and tell you that you'll get 1000+ members but I'm pretty confident you can make a good use of this Porn Access network to grab some sales

Otherwise a good idea is to start a small paysite and work on SEO for your niche but that costs more money !

I'd not go into submitting galleries as you'll lose all your money in buying partner accounts, unless you got some good friends like spewie that will list you on their sites for free of course

I think I remember you from the AB forums, we never spoke directly but I saw your posts quite a bit, popped over there recently and the forums seem to be dead, same with thinkreel.

I will definately give Porn Access a look, I can put together an archive in a few hours so it might be a good starting place for me. I'm not really after masses of members, all I want to do is eventually have enough sites making a little each to match my job and be able to work from home again.

I'd pretty much decided this time around to not bother with galleries, every MGP it seems is charging for submissions, as for spewie, he is a true old friend and I wouldn't want to exploit that to get free listings. However looking at his submit pages, he'd be one of the places I would pay for listings if I went down the gallery route, those are 6 quality sites and the price isn't all that bad, but galleries don't really convert anywhere like they used to from what i've heard.

Anyway...feel free to add me to ICQ and drop me a line sometime, catch ya later

Yeah thinkreel is quite dead except for spammers :-)

You can't go wrong with pornaccess. I got a small site there, made around 10 fhg and I get like 1000 uniques to my site daily. I'm sure you can make a lot more than that if you create 10 fhg every week ;-)

Isn't that what friends are for, to help out when you're in need?

They may not, but if you have that game covered and it makes you any half-ass decent ROI for the time/money invested, why leave money on the table? You can still start a free site of your own on the side, list your own galleries and simply put your 404 to good use. May not get you a ton, but it's always something.

I've just had a nice read through pornaccess and will definately be pushing it, I assume the link you gave has your referal code, want to make sure before I signup as want to give you full credit for it.

Can you host multiple sites & can you make as many fhg for each site as you like?

True...however when I left the biz back in '04, I lost contact with all my webmaster friends, I essentially tried to do a clean break from it all, it would be pretty shitty to just ask for help now that i'm back again after no real contact for a few years.

Good point, I can do gallery/archive promo with my eyes closed, it's the blog/tube site stuff that's giving me a headache right now.

Yes it has my link in there and of course you can make several sites with several FHG linked to them. I was in touch with Joel from Pornaccess and he was always ready to help and give you access to a lot of resources if needed !

Sorry if the questions are a little n00b'ish but I really am quite out of the loop

Is it similar to AB/DP whereby you get DVD credits which go up each month and how many sales you make?

Yes they give you access to their DVD listings and you can add some every month. But if you speak with them via ICQ and show them you're serious about it, I'm sure they can give you more if needed ;-)

They also make their enhanced screenshots so you don't even have to download the original movie

Really, isn't that what friends are for, to bail you out when in need, even if there hasn't been any contact for a significant amount of time? I'm sure you'd do the same if the situation was reversed, wouldn't you? Besides, you'll be owing them a favour which I'm sure might be able to come in handy some day.
