Default Anyone running ST + ATX + Wordpress on the same box?

I want to setup a WP blog to replace my TGP's warning page at http://www.hornypharaoh.com/ but i'm having problems...

My host keeps telling me that WP is too ressource hungry and other blog gurus like Jace and Jayeff tell me that they know many webmasters running tons of blogs / tgp on the same machine without any problem...

This is the boxes I'm paying for:

    NSI301, dell 1950/Xeon 5110/2GB/2x160GB SATA and
    NSI48, Dell 850/1GB/2x80GB

    anyone can help me!!?

btw - WP is NOT resource hungry if you have wp-cache running.

Yeah, tell your host about wp-cache.

On our 2 year old box, we have a lot of sites running with many scripts, including this board and lots of Wordpress, Arylias, Smart-Thumbs, ATX and many other types of scripts.

    Never had a problem.

I have atx/vanilla/st/wp all on one server but my server is a Dual opteron, 16GB Ram, 2 x 73GB SCSI 10K hdd so i would be pissed if it didn't run all that.

Just use wp-cache and it should be ok unless you push 500k a day on a single server then maybe not

somoene correctme if I'm wrong but I recall reading that merely because wp-cache is installed doesn't mean it's working right / configured correctly, and if that's the case it can actually make the resource problem worse. so if your host isn't already familiar with it, they're probably not the ones that should be installing it

    Of-course!

Configuring the server correctly includes installing WP-Cache to help manage the load the script could put on your server.

That's why picking a really good host to begin with is the first step towards success of your sites. Having to change hosts can cause problems.

That being said, HellC, who is your host if you don't mind me asking? Not trying to bash or anything, just trying to get a bit more information.

true... though it's very easy to install wp-cache correctly and it is also easy to verify that it's working - you just need to read the docs.

WP is a piece of shit resource hog. And WP-cache doesn't always work. Especially if you also want to use some sort of trade script on the blog to track traffic.

WP is NOT a resource hog

once again, I will say it for the 100th time...I LITERALLY have 300+ wp installs running on my box right now, NOT a single one is running wp-cache...and all are running a base WP install with no tweaks.....no issues at all

here is straight from my smart thumbs install on a 30k tgp on the same box as my 300+ wordpress installs

    Smart thumbs - Uptime: 10 days, 2:59, Average load: 0.02, 0.03, 0.02

it is a server issue yes, but it is a issue of the server not being configured correctly.....when I started to get extra load on my server I told my techs and within 20 miinutes my load was down to normal and hasn't gone up since

I just checked your install HellC and wp-cache seems to be set up just fine, I set the expiration time higher, so maybe that will help

regardless, I have set up blogs for people that are now getting 40k+ daily, and they have no issues.....but I have also seen people get 2k daily and have issues, and majority of the time it is because they host at webair, LOL, just kiddin....it is usually a deeper server issue and not wordpress itself

You may be just about the only one I've ever heard of who's never had WP eat up all of the memory on the box.

actually, i know it sounds horrible, but the trend I see is due to where the person hosts

Phat Servers, Jupiter, nationalnet....I NEVER see anyone have blog resource issues

webair, dwhs, etc..people always have issues, it never fails

I am going to ask my tech guys what they did to lower my load on my box so nicely.....not sure they will share with me, but worth a try to help everyone out

    BTW

HellC, I also lowered the posts showing up on the front page to 8 instead of 15

    see if that helps

every post that shows up is a new call to the database

I have seen guys put 70 posts on the front page and can't figure out why it takes 10 minutes to load
