    Default Anyone here run Linux?

Just wondering what you use for a good video editor? I just need something simple to watermark vids. Can't find anything stable. Kdenlive is the only one I've found so far that does this, but it is very unstable.

Also, anything better than Gimp? I need to be able to manually crop like you do in Photoshop. Gimp just won't do it.

    Thx.

Have you thought about running Photoshop under WINE?

I'm pretty sure Premiere runs under WINE also ...

I use Linux but i don't do video editing and i use ST for thumbing and such, sorry.

Have you considered installing one of the mulitmedia-centered distros like ArtistX?

A partial list of softwares included in ArtistX are:

    • 2D Graphic Software: Gimp, Inkscape, Nip2, Krita, Synfig, Rawstudio, Skencil, Hugin.
    • Video softwares: Cinelerra, Openshot, Kino, Openmovieeditor, Kdenlive, Pitivi, Avidemux, Devede, and many others.
Then again you could just check out the software on the list.

I tried a few programs under wine. I'll give Photoshop a shot tonight. I tried using Watermark Master under wine and it comes up, but the vids won't work in it. So its kinda useless.

Dred, in that list I'll check out openshot. I'm using linuxmint 8. Everything works great. I'll check into ArtistX in just a bit also.

    Thx.

I used to run LinuxMint (I loved the speed of the distro) but it ran unstable for me so i went back to Ubuntu. You could always check the linux forums (there are plenty of them out there), just use your SE to find them.

Yeah, been going through a bunch of them looking. Found alot of Vid Editors, but only one that I've tried out so far will let you Watermark vids. But it won't run here, it shuts down everytime I try to process the vid. Kdenlive.

Figured someone here might run linux that edits vids etc. So I figured I'd check and see if anyone did and what they used.

So far this version of Mint is solid as hell. Much more so than Mandrake or Redhat ever was for me. (Haven't ran linux since Mandrake 8)

I used virtualdub a few times for watermarking and it worked great.
Alternatively learn to use ffmpeg and you will be much happier.

Geez, how could i forget ffmpeg? Shouldn't it be available thru one of the repositories using Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager?

Anywho, glad you're making headway towards fixing your watermark issue.

Yeah its available in the packages to download. Pretty much have the Video figure out now. Just gotta mess with Gimp to get it setup the way I need it. (Cropping thumbs in Linux sucks right now, so I have to figure out a productive way of doing it)

So far Mint is still solid as hell for me and super fast. Just sick of windows and going back to linux. Should have stuck with it years ago. But, I became a Microsoft MVP, so I dropped linux to deal with that more...

I've got Photoshop7 running flawlessly on two machines under WINE ... I've read that CS2 works with WINE also, but when I installed it, PS7 was recommended, and I don't believe in fixing what is not broken.

facialfreek, that could be the problem I had then. I ran into major problems with trying to get PS 8 working. Will mess with it more over the next week or so. I still have PS7 on cd around here somewhere. I will have to hunt it up and try it out.

Kingdom, I'll check that proggie out. I redone my setup and went from Mint 8 32bit to 64bit. Kdenlive is working great now. Hasn't locked up or crashed one single time.
