Everyone can launch rockets, why shouldn't they be allowed to?

My thought is that the whole concept is absurd when they are unable to sustain themselves. They were willing to forego US food aid for the sake of stoking national pride by launching the rocket. You can't eat a rocket, but the government can now eat humble pie after admitting the launch failure.

Yep, agreed. They should probably read up on Maslow's pyramid of needs. Regardless, history has shown that stupid people tend to become extinct or at the very least assimilated into fitter groups. So in the long run, I'm really not worried about North Korea.

If someone needs a reference manual to tell them that food for a starving people is more important than making them play with toy rockets, then they're beyond help already

North Korea is another example that communism in practice does not work. The other that comes to mind is Cuba. In these type of governments only a few of the party elite enjoy the the best of creature comforts the rest of the masses are simply screwed by having to live virtually in the stone age. Cuba has finally come to the realization that the only way to have some sort of economy is to return to free market principles, albeit slowly.
