Default Space program scrapped to pay for air conditioning in Obama's sandbox?

well maybe not really but I was in the mood to make a sensational headline out of unrelated events
Among The Costs Of War: $20B A Year In A.C.? : NPR

The amount the U.S. military spends annually on air conditioning in Iraq and Afghanistan: $20.2 billion, according to a former Pentagon official.

That's more than NASA's budget. It's more than BP has paid so far for damage during the Gulf oil spill. It's what the G-8 has pledged to help foster new democracies in Egypt and Tunisia.

    Default NPR

Diane Rhem on NPR had a good show about how the military is looking into and using alternative fuels. The military has the goal of cutting fossil fuels use by 50% by 2020. If you listen to the show it sounds as if the military is leading the way for alternative fuels.

Um this story sounds like someone is trying to sell something to the American public.

Saudi Arabia provides AC in the middle of the desert for it's cows and here someone has a problem with supplying it to human beings?

Now it's important to note that wrapped up in Anderson's $20 billion figure are all kind of other expenditures – for instance, the cost of building and maintaining roads in Afghanistan, securing those roads, managing the security operations for those roads. That all costs a lot of money and is part of the overall war effort in Afghanistan.

Saudi Arabia is also the worlds largest exporter of oil. All the power plants (and desalination plants) are run on oil that is extremely subsidized to the point of almost being free. When Ghawar starts to run dry watch that irrigated and electrified desert to return to a desert.
