When you are in public office, you are fair game. Heck there are a few that are saying that Obama is not even a citizen of the US.

There is somethign unique in Alaskan law that allows anyone to file suit against the governor; she's incurred somewhere upwards of $500k in legal bills pertaining to frivolous lawsuits filed by her detractors as a means of harassment. Not sure if that had any bearing on this decision or not, but many of those mere criticisms were turning into legal bills for her.

He has never produced his original birth certificate. We do know that he has Kenyan citizenship, at least

What a thought nation-x! People will PAY to listen to her and waste good paper on a book?? The book should appeal well to National Enquirer readers.

If her speaking engagements are anything like the folksy waffle in her resignation speech, it says more about the listeners than it does about dear Sarah. It was almost like having to suffer a speech by Britney Spears before entering a drug rehab session.

In fairness to Palin, had it not been that she was so inept/unprepared and dragged out onto a national platform (disastrous choice) and allowed to speak, - then felt she was adored enough to warrant a higher profile, - she prob would never have made herself a target of ridicule and lived her 'career' out in peace. It's easy to mock public figures and Palin may well be a nice lady, but it's obvious there is nada underneath. If she is resigning for the reason alleged, why the hell is she even in public office? Smell there may be more bad news to come yet and only a matter of time before it floats to the surface.

It's not lawsuits btw... it is corruption charges. Just a slight correction. Anyone in Alaska can file a complaint and she has incurred huge legal bills defending against them.

Thank you, I knew it was something like that. Nearly all of the charges have already been dismissed, btw.

I keep seeing them described as "ethics violations", but I don't have the foggiest idea what they're about.

They ranged from messing with whatever office in having her sister's ex-husband fired as a cop, to using state staff, funds/resources to participate in her own agendas which had nothing to do with the State etc.

There were around 15 such complaints and most have been dismissed/settled, - only two or so remain outstanding.

I dunno, but if the average governor attracted so many "ethics complaints", ya got to wonder what the hell is actually going on.

They're all bull shit charges trumped up by her detractors, and initiated by private citizens, not by any government organization. There is nothing to any of them, which is why there hasn't been anything found which would cast her in a negative light, but she's had to spend something like $500k personally, and the state has spent another $2 million dollars, as well as alot of her time, in addressing the morons who use this as a tool of harassment.

As to what is actually going on, there are a number of groups within Alaska and on the web which have dedicated themselves to demonizing her, apparently in hopes of fending off any future political ambitions of hers. Her ability to garner attention and motivate her supporters seems to scare the hell out of a lot of folks on the left.

Once you get beyond the decision to quit I believe she still has value to the Republican Party and a lot of conservatives identify with many of her core values. The McCain-Palin combo was flawed from the start and flopped as a desperate attempt to win over the ladies vote and had the opposite effect.

This however, does not mean that women did not like Sarah Palin. I have spoken with many women who defended her and supported her. They will most likely rally for her in a presidential bid.

That folksy quality makes her attractive and the fact that she has problems like you and I adds to her allure. Unless the republicans come up with something better she will be giving BO a run for his money in 2012.

I guess the "pad throwers" better start stocking up.

I finally got a chance to see her press conference. Sweet dancing Metusalah! What the hell was that all about?! Can that woman put 2 coherent sentences together and follow a train of thought for more than 4 seconds?

Don't you recognize the cream of political leadership? This is a individual who "could" have been the Vice President of the US

Now you know why she was chosen by Mr McCain and still adored by an element of the public - the lady has talent and more than able to address international policy issues and fiscal management etc. Communication is yet another talent - can't wait for dear Sarah to embark of a "speaking engagement" tour to earn a buck - "You bet ya!"

"Ludicrous" would be a gross understatement.

You bet ya AmFlix! She is utterly brilliant and really over-qualified for any public service on this planet and didn't misquote the number of states. My heroine!

It's Sarah's extensive knowledge of geography, international affairs and social issues I admire her most for...

"They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan." - Sarah Palin

On a clear day you can see Afghanistan from the "Great State of Alaska" - it's in the same direction as our other neighbor, Russia, but you have to look south-west to see the schools being constructed.

Indeed, instead we have this master of geography and international affairs:
"it was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian, wheeling and dealing." --confusing German for "Austrian," a language which does not exist, Strasbourg, France, April 6, 2009
"I'm here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis." --speaking via satellite to the Democratic National Convention, while in Kansas City
"Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel's. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under a McCain...administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change."
"I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go."
"Just this past week, we passed out of the out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee -- which is my committee -- a bill to call for divestment from Iran as way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon." --referring to a committee he is not on
What is this guy's religious affiliation again?
"What I was suggesting -- you're absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith..." --in an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos
    and some other gems:
"On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes -- and I see many of them in the audience here today -- our sense of patriotism is particularly strong."
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed." --on a Kansas tornado that killed 12 people

All of that does not matter, the majority of the people that adore her wouldn't know enough about geography, u.s. history or much else to know what she was talking is nonsense. Go Sarah.

Much as there is a need to divert attention from dear Sarah, (and this is soo unfair of you AmFlix since you and I know my Sweetheart loves the spotlight ever since her ass became popular at beauty contests), perhaps it is better not to even begin quoting the last "leader" and my friend Sarah's running mate

Truth is, we all have a mental meltdown and talk crap on occasion - regardless of intelligence/education and who cares? We usually know what they intended to say anyway. Can remember a meeting with a trial counsel - the guy has a brilliant legal mind and had addressed a fair number of courts internationally. He was verbalizing strategy at the meeting and getting carried away with words, so I interrupted - "You are a pompous wanker - why don't you just use "the" instead of stringing together ten words to replace one?" He replied, "Well, I agree, I might be pompous..... " Even the brightest of folks who use "words" in their careers can talk crap - it never was the exclusive territory of politicians.

The possible exception is when it is obvious an individual is talking thru ignorance/inexperience - and trying to use their ignorance as a sales pitch.

Either way AmFlix, just believe me, I don't care what wild, unfounded, malicious allegations and questions are leveled at dear Sarah by that communist bitch Katie Couric, the evil media, those nasty left wing extremists. You bet ya, I'd vote for her any day because she is a hockey mom with lipstick and a nice pair of ummm .. eyes to allow her to see our neighbor Russia.

Strange, you seemed to be implying something else entirely just a few posts ago

Some simple facts are so ingrained in one's upbringing that no matter the "mental meltdown" folks will still be able to recite them correctly.

It's probably fair to say that any American who is not mentally impaired - and a good number who are - would be able to correctly identify the number of states in the union. Obama, however, is not an American, not culturally, so I guess we shouldn't blame the lad for his ignorance.

You know, the funny thing is there's tons of her detractors in the US who claim that Palin said she could see Russia from her backyard or something to that effect... but it was not Palin who said that, it was the comedian Tina Fey who uttered that line while doing an impression of her. That mere fact didn't stop the ignorant masses from attributing it to Palin herself.

Palin will be good for this country... she doesn't suffer from being educated beyond her intelligence, and make no mistake that is a handicap.

The last thing I want for this country to suffer under is someone who is perhaps book-smart but otherwise dumb, the kind of idiot who might decide that it's a good idea to get high on cocaine, unknowingly reinterpreting the dogma of his Marxist college professors against this fair nation. But that's what we got at the moment.

Ms. Palin looks like a damn Rhodes scholar in comparison, when common sense and any other flavor of intelligence is factored in.

The country will be better off when they're bickering about her being in office and looking back in dumbfounded disbelief that Obama ever got voted in.
