Default Palin abandons commitment to Alaskans

Palin stepping down this month - CNN.com

I think resigning as governor killed any chance she has at national office... seriously. Any opponent will slam her constantly with "When it was hot in the kitchen and she had ambitions to do other things she broke her commitment to Alaskans by resigning." That is a killer for her.

She hasn't "abandoned" anything. She's announced that she will be stepping down at the end of the month and that her replacement is ready, it's not like she just took an unannounced hiatus that left her constituents without a governor.

Agree that the liberal spin masters will have a good time with it. They'll probably use it as effectively as the conservative spin masters did in pointing out that Obama largely abandoned his Senate duties after only a few months to pursue another election.

How is resigning before her term is over not abandoning the commitment she made when she was asking to be elected? I hate to tell you... but YOU are the one spinning it any other way.

By that measure any politician who spends any significant amount of their time campaigning for re-election would be abandoning their commitment.

Spin away.

There is a big difference between campaigning and resigning.

Yes, one comes with a paycheck even if the work one was elected to do gets neglected, while the other insures that someone will actually be doing the work expected.

Even Ed Rollins disagrees with you.

'Abandons' is the wrong term to use as she has left the office in capable hands. She didn't just leave and have everyone scampering about wondering what's going on.

From what I read part of the reasoning was that she considered herself a lameduck since she has two years left on her second term? How noble.

There is something behind such a move and it will not be long before there is an announcement that she has accepted some position in some political organization or something to that effect. In order to be a viable republican contender she needs to be out and about in the people's eyes.

All of the recently disgraced republican governors have given her an edge.

Alaska Republicans think she abandoned them as well.
Quote:
Alaska's Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski issued a surprisingly harsh statement late on Friday, ripping Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to leave office at the end of the month. "I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded," Murkowski wrote.

Upon further research I realized I made an error when I posted she was on her second term. Actually she is on her first term, which then makes her decision to resign even more questionable.

Unless she comes up with a legitimate rational decision I do not see how the Republican Party would even consider to nominate her for the Presidency. The Democrats would have a field day with coming up with ad campaigns just on that fact alone. Being President is a committment to the people in this country and I would think your family in that instance comes second.

The advance from her book should sustain her during her unemployment period.

She has no problem earning money... she will make a killing on speaking engagements alone... forget the book.

It is suspected that Palin may run against this Senator you quoted, which is likely what elicited the "surprisingly harsh statement".

Wow! I am surprised it took this long.
Considering she was the subject of more scrutiny then the now sitting president and tons of vitriol from the frothing left (can't forget the McCain machine as well) , she held on longer than I thought.

I think it's money motivated. There's something lucrative on the horizon that she could not put aside until her term expired. If she was seriously thinking of running for higher office then it would have been far better to finish out her term as governer. We'll have to see what cushy job conveniently comes along for her.

lol... whatever. Should I start making a list of the bullshit that the right has been going after Obama for? She has endured very little in comparison.

Quitting because people criticize her makes no sense, especially if she wants to run for President. So she gets elected as president in 2012 and people criticize her even more, then she quits because of it?

In my opinion she is either confused or not being honest with us all.
